Chapter 14 Page 17 – What is the sound of one hand decapitating?
on January 14, 2013 at 5:15 amI regret we really can’t see more of what Wren and Attez’s marriage was like. I think that could be a wacky comedy slice of life comic unto itself.

Fun fact: American Gothic is supposed to be a farmer and his daughter, not his wife. The painting is filled with symbols for purity and hits that father is repressing his daughter. Next time you see it look at the woman’s broach, her single tumbling down lock of golden curled hair. The patterns on the clothing and curtains. It is actually a very deep and layered painting full of symbolism into which the painter though deeply about……of course since he made a lot of money on people’s mistake of it as a farmer and wife he quietly stopped correcting people when they came to drop off his royalty checks.
I somewhat regret putting this page so soon after the one with Lord Attez’s council because I feel it decreases the impact but I felt it just fit.
Have no fear, I don’t plan to turn any CQ characters into a puppet. That is quickly becoming a cliche.
I’m a big fan of dark humor like Shaun of the Dead but rarely find a place for it in Cwen’s Quest so I was really happy finally get to this page. When I sent this page off to Sarah I wasn’t sure what I would get back as I just made a few suggestions for what Lord Attez could have done to Wren and told Sarah to just go with whatever looked best. I was rather surprised when she decided to use all my suggestions. Poor Wren.
Yet another new look for Ulric. A bit of a refinement on his original look. You know when I get these pages there are lots of fun details in the art which were not spelled out, like for example that cup on Ulric’s desk. What was he drinking? I have no idea. Sometimes these little items lead to new personality quirks like perhaps Ulric enjoying Dr. Pepper and sometimes it is just fun to see what little detail filled in general descriptions like “Ulric sits behind his desk with stuff all over it.”.
I’ve always been rather critical of swim wear specials in comics since, let’s face it, a one piece would be putting more clothing on most comic book women. And if you are dying to see Sue Richards in a thong….I don’t want to know about that.
This was actually the image I first came up with when developing Cwen’s Quest. More or less this page just sort of popped in there and made me laugh and from there the rest of sort of started to develop on its own.
